Neben den Delegationen der Vertragsstaaten nehmen jedes Jahr auch zahlreiche andere Akteure aus der Zivilgesellschaft teil – darunter auch die Jugend als wichtiger Stakeholder im Bereich Biodiversität. Das Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) ist das Dach, unter dem sich Jugenddelegierte aus verschiedenen Ländern organisieren. Mitglieder der Jugenddelegation des Global Youth Biodiversity Networks besitzen sogar Rightsholder-Status, der bedingt, dass das Jugendnetzwerk nicht nur als gewöhnlicher Beobachter oder Stakeholder betrachtet wird, sondern als Gruppe mit legitimen Rechten und Ansprüchen im politischen Prozess der Biodiversitäts-Governance. Dazu zählen die Abgabe von Interventionen und Policy-Statements, das Organisieren von Side-Events und dem Bereitstellen eines Jugendpavillons und die Konsultationen mit Regierungen und anderen zivilgesellschaftlichen Gruppen.

Auch Österreich wird dieses Jahr durch Jugenddelegierte vertreten sein – und dafür suchen wir dich! Als Jugenddelegierte*r wirst du gemeinsam mit GYBN an der COP17 von 16. Oktober bis 1. November 2026 in Yerevan, Armenien teilnehmen.

Deine Aufgaben inkludieren politische Arbeit und Kommunikation zum Prozess vor Ort und den Verhandlungsinhalten. Tätigkeiten als GYBN Jugenddelegierte inkludieren:

• Teilnahme an Capacity-Building-Workshops vor der COP
• Unterstützung der Politik- und Avocacyarbeit bei der COP17, einschließlich des Verständnisses der Verhandlungen und der aktiven Zusammenarbeit mit Verhandlungsführern sowie mit Delegierten anderer Organisationen
• Beteiligung an Kommunikation und Aktionen;  Entwicklung von Kampagnen und Aktivitäten während der COP, um andere Delegierte einzubeziehen und sich für die Prioritäten der Jugend einzusetzen
• Erweiterung des Netzwerks und der eigenen Fähigkeiten, Entwicklung von Kooperationen und Partnerschaften sowie Teilnahme an Side Events und anderen Aktivitäten vor, während und nach der COP
• Die Jugenddelegierten werden über ihre Erfahrungen bei einer Veranstaltung des BOKU-Biodiversitätsclusters berichten

Die Rolle als Jugenddelegierte*r schließt Vorbereitungen und Capacity Building Sessions von August bis Oktober 2026 ein. Dein Aufenthalt wird von der BOKU University finanziert.

Um dich zu bewerben, ist es erforderlich, dass du zwischen 18 und 30 Jahre alt bist und an der BOKU University studierst oder arbeitest. Erfahrung (z.B. Studium, Berufserfahrung, freiwillige Tätigkeiten) im Bereich Biodiversität und Naturschutz ist darüber hinaus von Vorteil.

The CBD COPs are the conferences where the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) meet every two years to make decisions regarding the implementation and further development of the Convention. The 17th Conference of the Parties (COP 17) will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, from October 19 to 30 of this year.

In addition to delegations from the Parties, numerous other actors from civil society participate each year – including young people as important stakeholders in the field of biodiversity. The Global Youth Biodiversity Network (GYBN) is the umbrella organization for youth delegates from various countries. The Global Youth Biodiversity Network’s youth delegation even hold a rightsholder status, which means that the youth network is not just considered an ordinary observer or stakeholder, but a group with legitimate rights and claims in the political process of biodiversity governance. This includes issuing interventions and policy statements, organizing side events, providing a youth pavilion, and consulting with governments and other civil society groups.

Austria will also be represented by youth delegates this year – and you’re invited to apply!

As a youth delegate, you will participate in COP17 from October 16 to November 1, 2026, in Yerevan, Armenia, together with GYBN. Your responsibilities include political work and communication on the process on-site and the content of negotiations. Activities by GYBN Youth Delegates include:

• Participating in capacity-building workshops prior to COP
• Support thepPolicy and advocacy actions at COP17, including understanding the negotiations and actively engaging with negotiators, as well as with delegates from other organizations
• Engage in communication efforts and actions; developing campaigns and actions throughout the COP to engage other delegates and advocate for youth’s priorities
• Enhance your network, and skills, develop collaborations and partnerships, as well as participate in side events and other activities before, during and after the COP
• Share your experiences afterwards in an event organised by the BOKU-Biodiversitycluster

The role of youth delegate includes preparations and capacity-building sessions from August to October 2026. Your stay will be fully funded by BOKU University.

To apply, you must be between 18 and 30 years old and study or work at BOKU University. Experience (e.g., studies, work experience, volunteer work) in the field of biodiversity and nature conservation is also an advantage.
